Summer can begin anytime now…

May 20th, 2007

ksoccerAs I told you all last week, school is over for Kristopher and then yesterday was his last soccer game for the season*, so now we are wandering around looking for all the summer fun! It’s just not summer without a bunch of fun things and camp type stuff to do. We signed up for a summer reading program at the Library, which is not like the one I was a part of as a child. In this one (I think they do have the one where you read and keep track of a bunch of books and get prizes and such too) the kids (age 5 and up) come to the library on Mondays for an hour and learn about fun things. So it is pretty much storyhour for 6 or 7 weeks in the summer. One of the weeks is going to be about owls from the nature center. I’m even looking forward to that! I also saw a sign about art classes at the Murray Art Guild that I am going to call about tomorrow, if I remember. For Kristopher’s age they just have a class (that happens to be cheaper than the other classes) called “Messy Tuesday” that sounds really fun. He loves making things and any crafty thing just like me, so I hope it works out. All I know is I have to find something to do. We can’t just spend the whole summer without any structure! I like to have a plan and things going on.

Taylor and I went to my friend Lori’s baby shower on Saturday after the soccer game. We gave her the finished turtle and socks and I think she really liked them. Once again the turtle is Sheldon from knitty. I used Knitpicks Telemark in icicle and alpine frost. I didn’t do the applied I-cord around the edge of the shell, because I was cutting it close timewise and I couldn’t figure out how to do it. I just sewed the bottom of the belly onto the shell. It doesn’t look as nice as it probably would have, but it is still cute. I had a lot of trouble with the turtle as a whole and I probably won’t make him again. All the increases and decreases hurt my hands…and I also have no idea how to p1f&b. My needle just wouldn’t do it… The socks are from an infant sock pattern booklet, just basic little socks on 32 stitches on size 4 needles. I used some of my leftover Monsoon STR to make them and they were a hit since the daddy is a hunter.

taylorTaylor had some fun at the baby shower. She really enjoyed the little stage and went up and down and laid on it to color and enjoyed having people talk to her.

turkAnd now I will leave you with this picture from Kody’s sister Sabrina’s farm. We went there last weekend and we all just loved the turkey. Isn’t he funny? We had a lot of fun visiting and seeing all their animals and we even brought one home! Well, not yet, but we will have an addition to our animal family soon. Sabrina is going to bring us one of their cockatiels. Kristopher is about the same age as Kody was when he got his bird Nicky who still lives with his parents, so this is kind of exciting:) Thanks Sabrina!!

*The picture of Kristopher is from last Saturday because I didn’t get any very good ones from this week. I really liked this one of him throwing the ball in…he really is playing in a game with other people, I just didn’t get any of them in the shot.

As promised

May 14th, 2007

Here is the update I promised:)

uptownThe Uptown Boot Socks are getting closer to done, but not close enough for me. I still love them, but they aren’t going as quickly now. I tried the first one on one or ten times and decided that it would really be better if it had a few more rows, so I ripped back the toe decreases and added 3 and then decreased down to 8 sts instead of 12. I still have to kitchener up the toe though. I’m still not sure it is going to be right, but “we’re sure hopin’!” (you’d have to watch the bonus features on Jonah: A Veggietales Movie to get that…) So I am about halfway down the second cuff and wishing that the pair was finished and out of sight for a bit, even though I still love the pattern and yarn. I’m just bored with them I guess.

I have a baby shower to attend this Saturday, so I am trying to finish up a couple of small gifts to go with the sleeper I bought. First is Sheldon the Turtle from knitty. I’m not going to call him Sheldon…I think I’ll let his new family name him. New mommy loves turtles and I thought he’d be fun to knit. I am using Knitpicks telemark instead of shine as called for. I can’t remember what colors these are, I’ll put them up when he’s finished. Since the photo was taken I have added another leg and a half to the finished pile:) I also wanted to use my leftover Monsoon to make the new little boy some camoflauge-y socks. So far they are really cute! I did the entire first one in about 1.5 hours this morning. I think I am still going to have a bit leftover after they are done though!

I am still working on the bolero for Taylor and the rib cable socks from Favorite socks, but I forgot to take pictures of those, again.

walletI finished the tote bag for Kristopher’s teacher in time and she loved it! Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it before giving it to her. I’ve done that several times now and really need to take the picture as soon as I finish something. I also made these little wallets for the ladies at the front desk (who do a little bit of everything at Westside’s MDO), but forgot to take pictures before giving them as well. The asian print one is mine, the yellow one was a gift for my mother in law and the other one doesn’t have a home yet. I want to make some that are a little wider maybe with cardboard in the sides so that I can use them as photo envelopes. I have been wanting something to carry some 4×6 photos in my bag so that they wouldn’t get ruined, but don’t want to buy one of the fancy ones.

Maybe I can tell you more about my upcoming sweater project by the end of this week if I get some things completed. Have a nice week everyone!

So, I decided to come back again today…

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 13th, 2007

I just wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommies out there! I hope that you all have a wonderful day with your loved ones:)

I’m hoping to have a nice relaxing day – it feels like I’ve just been going non-stop this week! I’m planning to have some content tomorrow here on the blog…

One down and one to go

I finished the first Uptown Boot sock from Favorite Socks. Once again, the yarn is from the April Club shipment of the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin’ Sock Club. It is new Silkie Socks that Rock in the Walking on the Wild Tide colorway. I love the yarn and the pattern that I chose. And yes, my foot is really that small! The sock even looks tiny to me, but it fits perfectly and I can’t wait to get started on the second one. I have also been doing a lot of sewing this weekend, but haven’t really finished anything yet so I am not going to show pictures. One of the things is a surprise bag for Kristopher’s teacher. I think it is turning out really cute and I have put in some things that I hope will make her smile! His last day of school is Thursday and the big program is Thursday night. I don’t know whether to give it to her in the morning before school, in the afternoon when I pick him up, or at the program that night…Thoughts? I’ve also been working on more of the dolly things for Taylor’s birthday, but haven’t accomplished much other than cutting things out.

I am hoping to remember my camera tomorrow as I go about my day, so that I can participate in Get Real Monday! I think it looks like a really fun thing this week, but have forgotten my camera the last 2 days. It would be fun to take pictures of a Sunday though:)

Hope everyone is having a fun weekend! We are getting ready to grill and relax. Kristopher had a great soccer game this morning and the rain tried to hit us right at the end, but missed! I was so proud of Kristopher, he actually got in the mess of people today to get the ball. He didn’t score a goal, but that isn’t the important part. I was just happy to see him trying so hard and actually getting to kick the ball some:) (he did score a goal last week, so he was kind of upset about it today)
