Just a short note

August 23rd, 2005

I wanted to let everyone know that I heard back from the doctor’s office yesterday about my anemia profile. They said that the iron supplement that I am taking twice a day will be sufficient to cover what I need. The only other problem is that my vitamin B12 is a little low as well and they will give me a shot at my next appointment. I am not looking forward to that! I am still not feeling much more energetic, but I am sure that I will soon; part of it is that I am carrying a baby around all the time!

Kody and I did get to go to Hanonoki for our anniversary, we went Saturday instead of Thursday. It was a great meal, as usual. We also got to do a little shopping while in Paducah, which was nice. Unfortunately, we still didn’t find the baby a coming home outfit. We didn’t find anything great for Kristopher either. We were, however, able to find Kody a few new clothes for school. He was very excited and he will look great when school starts tomorrow! By the time we were done shopping, I was exhausted and had blisters on my feet, but it was worth it. I haven’t gotten to go to Paducah to shop since January, which was starting to get depressing. Hopefully I will get to go again before next January!

I hope that everyone everywhere is happy and well :) Bye bye for now!

Update on books

August 23rd, 2005

As many of you know, Kody’s and my anniversary was last Thursday. He got me the book that I wanted so badly, Great Knitted Gifts! I got to return the library’s copy, so someone else can be amazed! Anyway, I am still working on a couple of the projects in the book and will post them as soon as I get done. Some of my wool yarn arrived and the first skein took me forever to roll into a ball because it tangled into a million knots. I think it took me about 6 hours and instead of one nice ball, I have 6 small ones. It is still beautiful though and definitely usable. Anyway, for the next skein I got smart and hung it around my neck so it wouldn’t get tangled! It worked so much better :)

Kody and I had a great time on our anniversary. We went to Paducah and ate dinner at Hanonoki, a Japanese Steakhouse that Kody loves and I like too. The food was great as usual and the cooks are very entertaining! I actually ate a fillet mignon and of course shrimp. For those of you who don’t know me, I haven’t been eating red meat, but at my last doctor appointment my iron was very low, so I thought I would try a steak (since it was a fancy restaurant and we had a gift certificate ;) ) It was very good and I think maybe I can handle an occasional bit of red meat…but not ground beef. The smell of it makes me feel very sick. Anyway, enough about my strange eating habits!

I hope that everyone is doing well.

Six Weeks from Today!

August 17th, 2005

I haven’t written in the Family Journal lately, and today it definitely needs an update! I went to the doctor this morning for one of my many check-ups and also scheduled my c-section. Our baby girl (still nameless) will be born on September 28, 2005. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 that morning and after all the prepping and bloodwork they will do the c-section. I am still hoping that I have her a little earlier in the month, but if not she will be here that day!

We are definitely ready for her to be here. Sunday evening we finally rearranged our bedroom. This was not a fun task, since it was already pretty cramped, but we got the crib set up and it doesn’t look too bad crammed in here. The poor file cabinet got stuck in the bathroom though, since there wasn’t any room!

I also got a little bad news at the doctor… Apparently my iron is very low and that is the reason for my exhaustion. So somehow between August 3rd and today it dropped a lot. Anyway, they got me an iron supplement and also took some blood for an anemia panel, which hopefully won’t show anything worse. They are going to retest me in a couple of weeks (at my next appointment) to make sure that the supplement is doing it’s job.

Yesterday we finally got Kristopher his bicycle that he wanted for being such a big boy. We had promised that he could have one after he was using the potty all the time and it has been a couple of weeks now since he started doing great! We let him pick out his own and the helmet that he wanted. He was so excited :) Unfortunately when we got home it was pouring rain, so he had to ride it in the house, which was very interesting. We took some cute pictures though and as soon as I can figure out what is wrong with the camera cable I’ll put one on here. This evening if it isn’t raining I will try to take him outside so he can try it out.

I am still knitting and sewing away. Right now I am doing more knitting than sewing. I am hoping to get some fabric to make a crib bumper out of and would like to make a canvas diaper bag, but first I will have to find some fabric I like for both things. I found a book that I love with wool knitting projects (there is a link to it on my website). Kody has actually ordered it for me for our anniversary. It is hard to believe that we will have been married for 4 years tomorrow! Hopefully we will get to go out to dinner at Kody’s favorite restaurant – Hanonoki. It is a Japanese Steakhouse where the chefs cook right in front of you and it is a lot of fun to go to.

I think that is all I have for today. I will try to keep up with writing on here, so you all know what’s going on :) I hope as always that everyone is doing wonderful!

A Couple of Great Books

August 15th, 2005

I have found a couple of great books at the library that I wanted to share with anyone who is interested. I would like to get both of them.

The first is a little older and has just baby projects. It is called Knitting for Baby and is by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas. It has a lot of projects that are beautiful and appear to be easy. The instructions are great too!

The second book is one that I have checked out right now, titled Great Knitted Gifts by Andrea and Gayle Shackleton. It is a new book for 2005 and has projects that are only done in handspun wool. I am trying out one of the hats (although I don’t have any wool yet) and so far it has been very easy and looks very pretty. I have two different sets (hat, glove & purse) that I want to try next. I like most of the things in this book and would just love to buy it right now! A lot of the items are striped or have dots or flowers, and it has a lot of ribbing work and everything is so beautiful. I hope to be able to buy it sometime in the near future. It has things for adults and kids. The hat I am making now is for a little girl and the pattern calls for stripes, but to make it easier (and since I am not using the right yarn anyway) I am doing it in a solid color. The patterns aren’t small enough for babies, but I’m sure they could be adjusted. Anyway, I just can’t get over how nice this book is. I’ve had it for 3 days and I have looked at everything in it about 50 times ;)

I hope everyone is well! Until next time…

Blue Baby Blanket

I finally finished the Blue Blanket! I made up the pattern myself after looking at several blankets and I thought it would be pretty with the stripes. It turned out really well. There are a few mistakes throughout, but I’m not telling where! It is a little too wide, which makes it not long enough. It is almost a square, but still very pretty. It does look wonderful with the blue ear flap hat, which is great, since they were supposed to match! I am going to try a little bit different with the rose colored one. It took me about a month to do this one from start to finish, while working on other things, so I probably won’t be able to make tons of them, but I will make more :) I hope you like it!
