Random Wenesday
1. The thunder here this morning has been so loud and close that it has been shaking the house. Interestingly I am the only one who woke up.
2. I am thinking about writing a post about my favorite kitchen utensils later in the week. I have actually been thinking about doing that for a year, but haven’t gotten around to it. Kitchen utensils are fun:) Would that be totally boring to you/does anyone actually read my blog anyway?
3. After 8 1/2 months of no knitting (except for two small pairs of booties) I seem to have gotten my knitting mojo back, at least for a little while. I have been working on finishing my vest that I started right before Kameron was born. I knit the back and two fronts and then abandoned it. Sunday I got it back out and the pockets, seaming and neckband are now done. Now I just have to finish the edging and buttons and it will be ready for winter wear. I will post a picture sometime, maybe not until it’s finished though. I also finally wove the ends in on the scarf that I knit for Taylor and it needs to be blocked so she can wear it this coming winter.
4. The things that inspired me to start knitting again were 1)going through my yarn and half completed projects and finding some to get rid of and 2)Seeing the girasole kal at The Loopy Ewe. I think that shawl is beautiful and would love to be in on it. However I am being too cheap right this second to purchase the pattern. I also found too many things that need finishing. But that shawl makes me want to knit again, so I guess that’s good enough for now! I also decided to start a scarf with some beautiful blue malabrigo. Don’t know yet who it’s destined for, but it is a pattern of my own devising:)
5. I’ve been trying to cull old magazines and in doing so I have torn out more pages with ideas, things i I think I want, recipes, etc. I have always done this with the intent of putting them in a binder so they are easy to find. I tried to seperate some last week. So now I have a “catalog” of things I want, a folder with ideas (crafty and otherwise), and the recipes are sitting on a binder that was intended to be my “magazine cookbook”. I am hoping to work on that soon. I have so many homeless recipes.
6. VBS at our church starts Monday evening. I decided to take on the three year olds again this year instead of moving up with Taylor’s class. I have been reading the book and getting excited! I am hoping to work on getting a few things ready tonight, but set up is Sunday. Please pray for me as a teacher and for all the children I will encounter and teach next week:)
7. Saturday I have plans to be on the square during the farmer’s market selling my handmade goods. If you’re around or interested in buying anything, please come see us! We were supposed to be there last week, but Kameron ended up with a fever and cough all weekend. He is better now with just a little cough left. Hopefully nothing will stop us from being there this weekend because I really need to get some of this stuff sold! :-)
I think that’s all the random stuff I can come up with this morning! Hope you all have a lovely day!

…hasn’t been working out. I wanted to post an update on the 30 day shred that I’ve been doing. It has been well over 30 days now, but I decided to keep on doing the video because it makes me feel better I still need to lose more and stay in shape:) I kind of took a break though. I took the last 9 days off, so I decided to start with level 1 again today. The last time I did it I did level 3 and it was so hard that I don’t even think I want to try level three again…EVER. So I decided this morning that I had to start back and that I would do level one for a few days and then go back to level two which I actually like the best of the three.
I started out weighing 132 at the end of April and today when I weighed I was 125. I also started out as a 6-8 and am now down to a 4-6 (depending on the brand of course!) I feel so much better and hope that I am a little easier on the eyes as well;) It will be nice to lose a few more pounds. I know I won’t get back to the size and shape I was in highschool (although I can dream!) because, hello, I’ve had three children and I was pretty near anorexic back then. Anyway, somewhere between 100 and 115 is my goal. I know some of you reading this are thinking I must be crazy telling my weight, but honestly who cares? Why is that such a big deal that needs to be kept secret? Kind of like age…I just don’t get it. I’ll be 28 on Friday and I am excited! I don’t care who knows – and it doesn’t upset me that that is close to the big 3-0, like it does some people…you know who you are! Perhaps that’s because I’ve always wished I was older than I am, even still. Maybe when I finally get older I’ll think differently, but for now it’s not bothering me:) Sorry, just got off on something there for a minute!
I’m hoping before the end of summer to have reached my goal weight or at the very least be very close. It took a month and a half to lose the first 7, but I’m hoping that now that I’m back on track that I will work out every day and lose the other 10 in about the same amount of time. Anyone else trying to lose or get in shape this summer? What are you doing or finding works for you? Any suggestions for me, short of starving myself? I’m just not doing the starve yourself diet. I eat healthily and see no need for that. If you excercise and eat RIGHT you shouldn’t need to do that.
Have a lovely day, everyone!

We are, once again, participating in the Summer Reading Program at our library. Every Monday is a fun program for the kids and during the week we read, read, read! Last week we went to the library 3 times to get more books and I really enjoyed two that we read. First, is Mama Always Comes Home by Karma Wilson. This story was sweet for small children who don’t yet understand that Mama does always come home. It had beautiful pictures (always something that I enjoy) and vibrant colors. It is written in poetic form which also helps small attention spans:) I am planning to get this one!
The other book that I really enjoyed, as did my children, was Soft House by Jane Yolen. This was a sweet sibling story and also included something my children love to do. The pictures were also nice and it was a pretty book (though not as pretty as the other one.) After reading it, this is what Kristopher and Taylor did upstairs. Kody later helped them make a “better” one in each of their rooms. They have enjoyed playing in “tents” that we’ve made in the living room before, but I think they liked this even more.

So, if you’re looking for a good book for young children these are two good choices:) Have an awesome day!

…about public school, is the awards ceremony at the end of the year.
Yesterday, we all went to the awards ceremony at Kristopher’s school, not knowing if he would get anything. Kody was off and it was nice to all be there:) I think Kristopher was surprised to see him too! I really liked getting awards when I was little and I know Kristopher works hard and deserves the ones he has gotten and enjoys them too. I know I can give my own awards next year, but it just won’t be the same as an only student… Anyway, he got several awards from his teacher:
Sight Word Champion - for Excellent work Learning Sight Words
Math Fact Award - for Excellent work on Math Facts
Reading – for outstanding achievement in reading
Language Arts - for outstanding achievement in Spelling, Phonics & Writing
He also got a special award from the librarian, Mrs. Gore, that only 2 first graders recieved: The Captain’s Award - in recognition of outstanding performance in reading and contribution to the Library Lagoon for the 2008-2009 school year
One fun thing isn’t enough to keep him in public school, but it sure was hard sitting there, watching how excited he was to get something and knowing that that won’t be happening next year. This week I’ve been really looking at some curriculum and trying to decide what I want to teach next year. I’m having so much trouble choosing because so many look good. I just don’t want to purchase something that I will end up not liking, or that Kristopher won’t like. So, that’s where we are on school for now:)
The big kids have been really wanting an outdoor playset, as have I. We’re going to have to get something this year. If anyone has any suggestions on a nice set that will last forever, please tell me! They beg constantly to go somewhere that has swings and slides and things to climb on and I would really love to just let them run outside and be there! They do find things to do outside, but this would be extra fun and nice especially when we aren’t playing at the school everyweek like we do now. Anyway, I hope we can actually do this this year. I am pretty sure I know where I want to put such a thing now!
We need several things right now, it seems like. We bought a refrigerator early this week, which isn’t here yet, but we are very excited about. If you will recall this post you will remember that we had to replace a large chunk of the subfloor under the refrigerator before we moved in. We kept the same fridge and thought we had the leak under control, but found this week that our brand new floor has a spot that is soaked through and already needs to be replaced again. So since lowe’s had some good ones on sale we just bought a new one that will not leak! It was supposed to be in on Wednesday, but we haven’t heard from them yet about the delivery time. Hoping it’s today! We’ve also been looking at some bunk beds pretty seriously. Kameron will share the room with Kristopher once he’s big enough (not a year or 2 still) and the room really would be nicer with bunk beds. We’re wanting to get them now so that Taylor can go ahead and have a big girl bed too. She is not wanting to sleep in the toddler bed anymore and says that she likes big beds, not small ones. She really just needs a new bed too, so that her furniture will match, but she may have to use the one Kristopher has been using until we can afford a nice white one. I’d really like to get her a daybed actually…kind of like this one if possible!
Anyway, just a little of me dreaming;)
